About Me

As the third generation of teachers in my immediate and extended family, I naturally resisted the call to work in education for a long time.  Both my parents taught (Mom-3rd grade, Dad-high school English), my grandfather was a principal at a junior high, and countless aunts, uncles, and cousins have been professional educators.  I graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 1988 with a degree in Theater Arts - Design/Technology emphasis.

For the next 10 years I worked in event production, theater, and sound reinforcement in Santa Cruz and San Francisco, including a six year stint with Industrial Light + Magic, where I worked in color management and systems support.  When ILM moved to the Presidio in San Francisco, I decided to focus my energies more locally. I earned my teaching credential through CalStateTEACH, an outstanding teacher training program run by CSU Monterey Bay, briefly taught in the Oakland Unified School District, and then found a home at Oakland School for the Art in 2008.

I currently live in Oakland with my partner and our two children. I love being a part of the dynamic and committed OSA staff and cherish having the opportunity to bring my passions for arts and education together.
